It is our duty to ensure that the rights are a living reality – that they are known, understood and enjoyed by everyone, everywhere. It is often those who most need their human rights protected, who also need to be informed that the declaration exist for them

To serve as a preamble of the 60th Anniversary of the UN Human Rights Declaration, and recognizing the power of meaningful films as educational tools for concern citizens, the TIKSI Group is please to announce its First Human Rights Latin American Film Festival scheduled for July 10, 17, 24 and 31st at 6:30 p.m. at the Passaic County Community College Auditorium located at the corner of Ellison st. and Memorial Dr. in Paterson NJ. This first event will feature 4 films/documentaries made in Peru, they have been awarded international recognition and will be dedicated to the large Peruvian community of Passaic County and all other Latin-American communities of NJ

 

Julio 10, “CHOROPAMPA”, directed by Ernesto Cabellos (Perú) and Stephanie Boyd (Canada), Language Spanish. is the story of an Andean paradise lost – lost after a devastating mercury spill. The story follows a valiant struggle for health care and justice over a two-year period.

 

Julio 17, “SOY ANDINA”, directed by Mitch Teplitski (USA), Language: Spanish and English. Is the dazzling story of two women raised in different worlds — an immigrant folk dancer from the Andes, and a modern dancer from Queens, NY — who return to Peru to reconnect with roots and an astonishing world of traditional dance and celebration.

 

Julio 24, “TAMBOGRANDE”, directed by Ernesto Cabellos (Perú) and Stephanie Boyd (Canada); Language: Spanish. Is the heroic story of brave men and women of a small town in northern Peru who confront corrupt politicians and the global mining industry to defend their fertile land of mangoes and limes.

 

Julio 31, “ALIAS ALEJANDRO”, directed by Alejandro Cárdenas Amelio (Perú-Germany), Language: Spanish and German. Is a personal journey in search of a lost father, a terrorist group leader confine for life in a Peruvian jail. The story rescues historic moments in the past Peruvian years of terrorism.

 

The Festival will also feature the art of three renowned Peruvian painters: Elena Tuero, Fernando Pomalaza and Mario Villalva. Nélida Silva and Cynthia Paniagua from Soy Andina will perform live, as well as The Caporals a group of young Bolivians who cultivate traditional dance. Among other special guests are Jose Antonio Garcia, Peruvian Consul and Ing. Gregory Camacho featured in Choropampa.
